Daniel Barker

Churchwarden

It has been described to me that wardens should treat the Church like their own home – ensure its tidy and secure etc. I’ve only been ‘wardening’ for a few months, and when I’m on duty, my activities in the 10.45 service and other ad hoc services have been doing just that, as well as keeping count of the congregation numbers and passing the collection bags round the Church.

I’ve been coming to St Matthews since before I was born – my family started worshipping here in the late 60s. I represent St Matthews on Walsall Town Centre Ministry and am a governor at Blue Coat Federation. I’m a regular member of Signs for Worship and currently lead my home group.

I’m involved in local politics and was elected councillor twice between 2011 and 2021. I’m also a civil servant, dealing with national planning casework and providing administrative support within the Department for Levelling Up Housing and Communities. I live with my mum, one of my brothers and my cat Cookie. I love Star Wars, Marvel and Dr Who. I have a good memory for English Kings and Queens and 80s No1 hits.
